HOME PROJECTS ANIMATION TECHNICAL CONTACT BDDS TECHNICAL RESOURCE DRAWINGS / SKETCHES

ANIMATION : 45_00_10

BACKGROUND: This exercise was set up as an exploration of how to effectively present light though video and determine the factors which enable the end result to be presented on a website.

SOFTWARE:

•AUTOCAD

•SKETCHUP

•PHOTOSHOP

•KERKYTHEA

•A4 IMAGE CONVERTER

•MOYEA FLASH VIDEO MX Pro

METHOD : Main 3D scene created in Autocad and imported into Sketchup. Lights applied to model (BDS standard files with light settings imported from the components section. for spotlights, uplighters, downlighters, table lamps and pendant lamps).

..Contd

Animation composed in Sketchup using the scene tabs and exported along with model as an xml file via Kerkythea plug-in[note: frozen layers will not be exported to Kerkythea].

XML file imported into Kerkythea (Sketchup plug-in). Animation set using scenes imported from Sketchup as animation nodes and rendered (note: scene speeds may be adjusted in Kerkythea).

RENDER SETTINGS: Resolution: 640 x 480 - Fps: 15 frames per sec .

Images produced by the Kerkythea animation converted to an avi video file using A4 image to  video converter.

 SETTINGS: Non-compressed

Avi Video converted to flash using Moyea Flash Video MX Pro (setting for high quality @ 264 codec) size: 640 , 480 .

BACKGROUND:This exercise was set up as an exploration of how to effectively present space/materials though video and determine the factors which enable the end result to be presented on a website.

SOFTWARE:

•AUTOCAD

•SKETCHUP

•PHOTOSHOP

•KERKYTHEA

•A4 IMAGE CONVERTER

•MOYEA FLASH VIDEO MX Pro

METHOD : Main 3D scene created in Autocad and imported into Sketchup. Materials applied to model by mapping photographic images (modified in Photoshop).

Animation composed in Sketchup using the scene tabs and exported along with model as an xml file via Kerkythea plug-in[note: frozen layers will not be exported to Kerkythea].

..Contd

XML file imported into Kerkythea (Sketchup plug-in). Lighting adjusted along with certain materials as required (the mirror in this case). Animation set using scenes imported from Sketchup as animation nodes and rendered.

RENDER SETTINGS:

Resolution: Quality set for full screen mode on web page, therefore 1024X768.

Fps: 10 frames per sec (not perfect but keeps file size down). Duration: 90 seconds. Images produced by the Kerkythea animation converted to an avi video file using A4 image to video converter.

SETTINGS: Avi Codec: Intel Indeo Video 4.5Avi Video converted to flash using Moyea Flash Video MX Pro (setting for high quality @ 264 codec), size: 850 , 500 .

FILE SIZE: File size is set as a trade off against quality(the avi generated for this 1.5 minute video was 2 gigabytes), conversion to the flash flv file format (web standard) reduced this to 26.2MB.

BACKGROUND: The exercise was set up to accurately present shadows cast by sunlight at specific geographic locations and times.

SOFTWARE:

•AUTOCAD

•SKETCHUP

•PHOTOSHOP

•PINNACLE VIDEOSPIN

•MOYEA FLASH VIDEO MX Pro

Method :

The material of the ceiling needs to be both transparent in addition to having the property to block light in order to enable shadows / light to be cast on the internal walls  - this is done by creating a transparent material within Photoshop and saving as a png file (TG_transparant-70pc-skup.png).

..Contd

This material when brought into Sketchup is set to a transparancy of 70%  and applied to the ceiling.Close and re-open Sketch-up to see the full effect.

Rubyscripts

"inbox.rb", "model_location.rb" & "template_utils.rb" copied into Sketchup's Plugins folder. This enables correct orientation of shadows within the free version of Sketchup without having to adjust in Google Earth.

Shadows set for suitable time periods and exported from Sketchup as png files (note: file resolution when exporting from the free Sketchup version is dependant upon screen resolution).

Images imported into Pinnacle Videospin with fades added.

File exported as an avi file and adjusted in MOYEA FLASH VIDEO MX Pro.
